The Final Step: The Citizenship Ceremony

If your application is approved, the final step is to attend a citizenship ceremony. This is where you’ll officially become a Canadian citizen. At the ceremony, you’ll take the Oath of Citizenship, pledging your loyalty to Canada and its laws. Once you’ve taken the oath, you’ll receive your citizenship certificate after which – you will be able to apply for your Canadian passport.

Canadian Citizenship

Becoming a Canadian citizen is an exciting milestone for many people who call Canada home. It’s the final step in fully joining the Canadian community, giving you the right to vote, travel on a Canadian passport, and enjoy all the benefits of citizenship.

The process is straightforward, but there are important requirements and steps you need to follow to make your application successful.

Application Process

Applications for Canadian citizenship are submitted online. You will need to include documents like your permanent resident card, proof of language ability (if required), and records of your time in Canada. There’s also a processing fee you’ll need to pay when you submit your application.

Once you’ve submitted your application, IRCC will review it to make sure all the required documents are included and that you meet the eligibility criteria. You will be asked to attend a citizenship test or interview, where you’ll answer questions about Canada’s history, government, and symbols.
